"Surgical Cockpit" is a product developed by Oslo University Hospital and KPMG. It leverages AI technology to transform waitlists into optimized surgical scheduled based on historical data combined with real time data of the availability of resources. The result is an AI generated surgical schedule that updates daily based on changes in the patient waitlist and hospital resource availability. This provides clinicians with their very own planning assistant, able to take the birds eye view of the multi resource planning problem, and proposing schedules that are optimized to get the most care out of the available resources, without compromising on quality.
Clinicians are the human in the loop, and make assessments of proposed schedules before any appointments are confirmed. For this they have a simple to use calendar view where they can make manual overrides, or ask for AI generated alternatives for single appointments or gaps in the surgery blocks.
Patient involvement is a critical part in ensuring that plans can be carried out. To address this, Surgical Cockpit allows patients to notify the hospital about changes to their health or dates they are unable to attend surgery prior to the confirmation of the appointment. Through the same mechanism the hospital can automate checklists tailored to patient groups, enabling the hospital to focus their coordination activities.
Last minute changes may occur at the hospital as well, and to stay on top of this the Surgical Cockpit provides notifications to coordinators when resource availability changes such as a surgeon getting ill.
This is all tied together through the management persona who defines the terms and goals for the planning, and tying the strategic level of planning from top management, through the clinics, departments and sections. Setting the top goal for utilization rates, and providing the resource allocation to achieve them, and making adjustments based on operational reports and dashboards.
In this session you will see the solution in action, and learn about the challenges and benefits from Oslo University Hospital.
