Presentation
Shearwater is a global provider of marine seismic acquisition and processing services, focusing on proprietary data acquisition. The company was established as a joint venture between GC Rieber and Rasmussengruppen in 2016 and has subsequently grown to become the largest seismic vessel operator globally. The company is headquartered in Bergen, Norway with main offices in Houston, London and Singapore.

When founded in 2016, Shearwater owned and operated a fleet of four high-end seismic vessels. Since then, the company has expanded its fleet through two major transactions and has become the largest 3D vessel operator in the industry. In 2018, Shearwater announced the acquisition of WesternGeco’s marine seismic acquisition assets and operations. The transaction increased the company’s fleet by seven 3D vessels, three OBS-vessels and two source vessels. In January 2020, Shearwater acquired five high-end 3D vessels and two legacy vessels from CGG. This brings the total vessel count to 23. In addition, Shearwater and CGG agreed to establish a marine streamer company, combining the two companies’ technologies. The new entity will operate under the Sercel brand name and will be the leader in the streamer market.
