Scorpio Wind is the newly formed offshore wind turbine installation arm of Scorpio Bulkers, a dry bulk shipping company with a fleet of 49 owned and six chartered-in dry bulk vessels. Scorpio Bulkers is headquartered in Monaco and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

In August 2020, Scorpio signed an LOI with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for the construction of one wind turbine installation vessel for USD 265-290m, with options for three additional vessels. The contract is expected to be signed in early Q4’20, with the delivery of the first vessel scheduled in 2023. The vessels are GustoMSC’s NG-16000X designed and include a 1,500 Leg Encircling Crane from Huisman Equipment. They can operate at heights of over 185 meters and in water depths of more than 65 meters, and are capable of installing the largest wind turbines currently designed onto pre-prepared foundations. The vessels incorporate efficient, green innovations which reduce the operating window and time to first power.
