Northvolt is establishing large scale production of lithium ion battery cells in Skellefteå, Sweden, using hydropower and sustainable supply chains to make the worlds greenest battery. Electrification of the mining industry play a key role in reducing the carbon footprint for lithium batteries and Northvolt has been partnering with Epiroc to develop and supply battery systems for underground mining vehicles. These batteries are tailored for the demanding safety and performance requirements in mining applications to enable a wide transition to emission free operation throughout the industry.
