This debate will consist of two sections.
For the first panel discussion, we have gathered people from different parts of the dental care sector with the purpose to lett hem give their views on the situation and the opportunities in Sweden for an increased collaboration ibetween science and clinic. What benefits can be seem and what activities and resources are needed to accomplsh the task.
To the following panel discussion, lecturers will give their contributions in the form of thoughts and experiences, both successes and setbacks. from their respective areas. The purpose of htis is to give additional knowledge to a broad base to stand on, for a succesful collaboration between science and clinic. What conditions and opportunities do we have to open the gates?

Forskningsverksamhet och kursgivning inom; cariologi, prevention/sjukdomsbehandling, samhällsodontologi, äldretandvård, vårdanalys och vårduppföljning.

Andrée le May graduated in nursing in 1982. After gaining her PhD she became interested in how nurses use knowledge in practice and has researched and ritten in this area ever since. She has published on evidence-based practice, the dissemination and implementation of research, and the use of communities of practice for improving learning. She is now researching skills for quality improvement.

Dr. Cyril Meyerowitz is Professor and Director Emeritus of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester and Director of the Northeast Region of the National Institute for Health (NIH) funded, National Dental Practice-Based Research Network. He received his dental degree from the University of Witwatersrand, School Of Dentistry (South Africa) in 1973, and an MS degree in Dental Research from the University of Rochester in 1979. He completed residency training in general dentistry and a clinical and research fellowship at Eastman Dental Center/University of Rochester. Throughout his career he has been involved in dental education and research, serving nationally on the Commission on Dental Accreditation, the Commission for Change and Innovation of the American Dental Education Association and as chair of the Council of Dental Education and Licensure of the American Dental Association. Dr Meyerowitz’ research has been translational in nature focusing on salivary dysfunction and its relationship to dental caries, the relationship of systemic diseases to oral health, and, more recently, practice-based research. He has received NIH and commercial funding for this work. He has an active interest in dental educational research and in training clinical researchers, and he has been the principal investigator on NIH funded clinical research training grant awards. Dr Meyerowitz has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and contributed numerous chapters to text books. He has presented to health care, educational and governmental bodies at the local, state, national and international level, and has been honored by professional and academic organizations.

John Gabbay qualified in medicine and public health and in 1992 became foundation director of the Wessex Institute for Health R&D at Southampton University in the UK, where he now professor emeritus. He is a qualitative researcher whose interests have always centered on understanding how health professionals use knowledge in practice, and how research can improve care alongside other influences.

Per är professor i oral protetik och chef för Avdelningen för Materialvetenskap och Teknologi på Odontologiska fakulteten, Malmö universitet.
Hans forskningsfokus är dentala keramer och han har publicerat uppmärksammade vetenskapliga artiklar och lärobokskapitel baserade på såväl klinisk forskning som laboratorieforskning. Utöver det är han ordförande för Svenska Tandläkare-Sällskapet och president för Scandinavian Society for Prosthetic Dentistry.

Är avdelningsföreståndare vid avdelningen för Orofacial smärta och käkfunktion. Min forskning omfattar epidemiologiska studier av TMD hos ungdomar och vuxna; analys av diagnostiska metoder och mekanismer vid TMD och orofacial smärta; samt i randomiserade kliniska studier utvärdering av den smärtlindrande effekten av olika former av behandlingar. Har medverkat vid SBUs rapport om långvarig smärta; Socialstyrelsens nationella riktlinjer för smärta och funktionsstörningar i mun, ansikte och käkar; samt tjänstgör som expert i flera nationella och internationella organisationer.
