Company Profile
EXACT Therapeutics is a clinical stage Norwegian biotech company developing a technology platform for targeted therapeutic enhancement – Acoustic Cluster Therapy (ACT®). ACT® sonoporation is a unique approach to ultrasound-mediated, targeted drug enhancement – with the potential to significantly amplify the clinical utility of a wide range of therapeutic agents across a multitude of indications including within oncology (chemotherapy, immunotherapy), infectious diseases, and neurological conditions. The technology was originally developed withing GE Healthcare, were USDm 10 and 40 man-years were invested into it. In 2012, three core scientists spun out from GE Healthcare to form Phoenix Solutions, now EXACT Therapeutics – with the aim to clinically develop ACT®.

Recent highlights
In September 2019, Exact Therapeutics begun a clinical trial with their ACT® platform in patients with liver metastases secondary to colorectal and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The ACTIVATE trial is a first in human open label, single arm phase I study with the aim to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of ACT® sonoporation. In May 2021, the company announced that enrolment of patients in the study has been adversely impacted by the pandemic period, and only 7 patients had been enrolled.

Outlook
The ACTIVATE trial is planned to finish in H2 2022. From the results, the company aspires to achieve preliminary proof of concept and select the optimal dose for further clinical development. At the same time, the company is planning to initiate a number of pre-clinical studies in oncology and CNS indications for the ACT® platform.
