Thursday August 19, 2021 15:30 - 17:00 YELLOW room
Partner: Eirene Chen, Independent Specialist, SOGIESC Forced Displacement.
(Language of the event English)
This event is a 90-minute, interactive, experiential "serious game" for in-person participants. It is modelled on participatory social justice theatre and immersive online gamification learning tools. Although the transnational co-facilitation team is based in Canada, France and India/Thailand, the event will be co-facilitated in person, in English. Participation is restricted to in-person participants only and will be livestreamed for digital audiences.
Up to 50 participants (final number of participants to be confirmed, not to exceed 50 persons) will be introduced to a general LGBTQIA+ refugee forced displacement scenario and then invited to creatively play out different roles in this scenario in short, sequenced "steps", which will be collectively debriefed at various points throughout the process. Target audience members are members of the general public, formerly or current displaced queer people, subject matter practitioners/specialists and policymakers - all of whom who can remain anonymous throughout the activity if they wish. This event welcomes participants who are under 18 years of age, with the caveat that sensitive topics will be discussed.
The event will begin by welcoming participants, introducing co-facilitators and their organizations, and presenting the game's purpose, general steps and safety guidelines. Participants will then select or be assigned their roles and collaboratively solve a set of challenges, with periodic breaks for reflection and analysis. The event concludes with a brief, interactive general group discussion, inviting participants to map themselves into the global LGBTIQ+ refugee assistance ecosystem, and to reflect on next steps that they can take in their daily lives to support LGBTIQ+ refugees and asylum seekers
