Tema: Ekonomi och marknad
Maria will present results from a recent study on production costs of electrolytic hydrogen. The aim of this study is to analyze how different electricity price scenarios, for four European countries in 2050, affect the production costs, using green hydrogen and e-methanol as examples. Production costs are estimated from varying investments costs on electrolyzer and the cost for electricity, the latter connected to capacity factors (CFs). If utilizing varying electricity prices in a smart way, the production cost of liquefied hydrogen and e-methanol can be as low as 58–87 €/MWh and 76–100 €/MWh respectively, assuming future electrolyzer investment costs of 300–450 €/kWelec and CFs of 45–65%. Maria will also reflect on general insights she has gained from assessing costs for different future fuel options and thereby setting hydrogen’s cost-competitiveness in a bigger perspective.

Associate Professor, Energy Systems Analysis
Chalmers University of Technology, associate professor
Maria is an associate professor in Energy Systems Analysis, at the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences, Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. Maria’s research and teaching aims to provide long-term, and most often global, perspectives on future renewable fuels for transport. Research tools include techno-economic assessments and cost-minimizing models where all energy sectors compete for the same primary energy sources in a future carbon constrained world. She has a special interest in the role of hydrogen and electrofuels in the future transport fuel mix, meeting ambitious climate targets.
