Människor som lever i fattigdom, som saknar stabila hus och krishanteringssystem, är mer utsatta för klimatkrisen. Faktorer som kön och ålder, om du har ett handikapp, påverkar också utsattheten. Vad kan göras? Välkommen till ett samtal om klimaträttigheter, rätten till klimatsäkra hus och infrastruktur, samt vad som kan göras för att stärka människors motståndskraft för klimatkrisen. This session is focused on how the political reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the physical health and economic situation differently depending on where and how you live, with linkages to rural or urban areas, class and age in the Eastern Partnership region (Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia). The session also aims to emphasis youth and how they face long-term consequences in terms of closed schools and high unemployment rate and connect to how the outcome of this situation affect segregation in the societies.

Investments in large scale commercial agriculture often mean that people already living in poverty lose their land. Human rights are violated, the environment is destroyed and small holders cannot sustain themselves anymore. Women are often particularly affected. How can small holders’ right to their land be ensured? What is the responsibility of investors? A discussion between investors and representatives from Liberia and Indonesia.

Richard Wilkinson har forskat om sambanden mellan klass, ojämlikhet och hälsa i fem decennier. Wilkinsons studier har bland annat visat att det i samhällen med stora inkomstskillnader förekommer mer sociala problem och ohälsa än i mer jämlika samhällen. I hans senaste bok, Den inre ojämlikheten, fokuserar han på de psykologiska effekterna av ojämlikhet. Det är också om detta han kommer att prata på MR-dagarna: hur ojämlikhet påverkar våra tankar, känslor och psyke, och hur kan vi motverka de effekterna.

The event explores how, above all, women's and indigenous peoples' right to land is met in the peace agreement in Colombia four years after its implementation. What are the experiences so far? What does the future hold for women, small farmers, and for Colombia's indigenous peoples, and how is the right to housing and land in Colombia guaranteed in the framework of the peace process? A global pandemic has scorched the world for the last year, causing death and illness at a speed not seen for over 100 years. In the fight against the deadly virus cities, countries have been in lock-down, people have been told to stay at home, schools have been temporarily shut down and more or less all events have been cancelled or postponed. On Februari 2 the pandemic had in itself taken some estimated 2,24 million lives world wide - but the real number is most likely higher and as the virus continues to spread, taking new forms there is no saying what the final number will be.A part from the deaths and suffering from the virus itself, the measures to counter it will have an impact on many peoples lives for years to come. Poverty from unemployment, lack of education and restrictions in human rights- and freedoms, violations of democratic values and a world full of silenced cultural workers. What lies ahead, what needs to be done - when and how will states be able to heal the long-term effects of covid-19? Will the gap between rich and poor countries in the world get even larger? What are the responsibilities of the world community?The seminar will get written-interpreted afterwards.

Liberia and Colombia have both suffered long civil wars. Liberia is rich in natural resources but conflicts between large companies and small holders are common. In Colombia, armed conflicts are erupting and violence towards human rights defenders is escalating. How can democracy be strengthened in countries with weak democratic institutions and large inequality? Discussion between representatives from Liberia, Colombia and Sida.

Conflict and civil war often affect people within the country differently (with regard to geographical area, if you are a part of a minority, power and money, gender, etc.) and often lead to internally displaced persons. This seminar discusses internally displaced persons/forced relocations with a focus on human security, shrinking democratic space, rights, identity and the path to sustainable peace. The discussion is based on their feminist peace work, with current analyzes and examples in the light of Covid-19 from Colombia and Cameroon respectively.

This panel discusses and critically reflects on the contribution of the  human rights framework in times of crisis, from freedom of expression to the right to housing.

Swedish foreign policy has a strong focus on human rights, peace, security and women, but focus is often placed on the global UN system. This seminar gives an opportunity to gain knowledge of the regional Inter-American Human Rights System and its potential role in ongoing crises. What are the possibilities and challenges for the human rights system to contribute to peace and security, and respect for human rights in countries such as Venezuela, Nicaragua or Colombia?

They all use non-violent methods to bring about social change.In our time, it is more important than ever to engage in social change and strive for justice, equality and against violence.The next 30 minutes will focus on how we can all engage online in the non-violent struggle for change, which is particularly important today. With this seminar, we want to enable and inspire social movements and actions for change in digital ways.

Cultural heritage can be used to maintain structural discrimination. In this seminar, Kalmar County Museum instead will highlight the positive power of cultural heritage for the development of society. With examples from collaborative projects from i.e. South Africa and Kenya we show how place, cultural heritage and human rights together can create room for reflection and positive change in issues related to land ownership, xenophobia and racism.

The most important commitment in the 2030 Agenda is to ‘leave no one behind’. When available data is visualised, it becomes clear that the possibilities to benefit from progress and enjoy human rights is often dependent on where you live. But available statistics are not always inclusive. Welcome to a discussion on how we improve and use data to make better decisions so that the realisation of human rights is not dependent on where you may live.

A 6-country comparison on impact of climate change and disaster on gender equality and it´s effectiveness. From the data it is evident that women suffer more severe impacts of climate change and that climate change accentuate gender inequalities. In some instances, though, climate change, disrupted traditional norms and roles to the point where previously gender prescribed roles now were shared. Gender blind interventions can reinforce inequalities, and limit the effectiveness.

How is life under occupation? Movement restrictions, separated families and discrimination are everyday aspects of life for the people of Western Sahara and many Palestinians. In this seminar, we will hear from people currently living in occupied territories about their situation and their resistance work to fight the ongoing human rights violations.
