Hydro REIN (REIN) is Norsk Hydro’s (Hydro) unit for developing new renewable projects and solutions and was set up as a separate company within the group in 2021 to further enhance and grow the business. REIN aims to support Hydro and other industrial clients through the energy transition, which entails access to renewable energy but also tailored solutions and significant energy competence.

Despite its short history as a separate entity, REIN already has a gross secured portfolio of ~1.7 GW (0.6 GW net) with tier 1 partners. This includes one inherited, producing 26MW hydropower asset in Norway (100% owned), and solar and wind projects under construction in Brazil and Sweden. The company also has a sizeable project pipeline and is targeting to bring 3 GW (gross) into operation or under construction by 2026.

In addition to utility scale, grid connected projects, the company is aiming to establish a leading provider of “behind the meter” energy solutions for its industrial clients, offering on-site generation, BESS and energy efficiency services and developing an end-to-end digital platform for energy optimization.
