Vianode Presenting Company

Presentation
Vianode, a company owned by Elkem, Hydro and Altor Equity Partners, is a producer of sustainably engineered battery materials that increase safety and reduce charging time in EVs and other sophisticated energy storage applications. With more than 100 years as a supplier of advanced material solutions, disruptive technology, clean processing, and access to renewable energy contribute to greener batteries. Vianode’s range of anode graphite products offer unique performance characteristics and are produced with up to 90% lower CO2 emissions than standard materials – supporting the ambitions of leading battery cell and automotive manufacturers to accelerate the green transition. Here, Vianode raises the bar for how sustainable batteries are produced – with lower energy consumption in the production process and with 100% renewable energy.

Vianode's facilities include a sophisticated laboratory and development centre and an industrial pilot facility capable of meeting customer sample quantities and demonstrating processing capabilities in Kristiansand, Norway. Vianode has secured a site in Heroya Industrial Park in Porsgrunn, Norway, for large-scale industrial production. The company announced an investment of NOK ~2bn for a first-phase plant that will produce graphite for more than 20,000 EVs per year. A potential full-scale plant will produce graphite for more than 2m EVs per year by 2030.

Vianode is therefore well positioned to be a key player in the fast-growing battery industry. The global demand for batteries is growing rapidly, driven by the green transition, but there is not sufficient ramp-up of battery materials production. Europe is facing a significant shortfall of graphite materials towards 2030, which Vianode aims to address with high-performance offerings. Automakers and authorities are also increasingly focused on a sustainable value chain, where Vianode has a unique offering with low CO2 footprint.
