Shearwater is a global provider of marine seismic acquisition and processing services, focusing on proprietary data acquisition. The company was established as a joint venture between GC Rieber and Rasmussengruppen in 2016 and has subsequently grown to become the largest seismic vessel operator globally. The company is headquartered in Bergen, Norway, with main offices in Oslo, London and Houston.

Shearwater offers both 3D and 4D marine seismic data, imaging products and data processing software. With the world’s largest fleet of modern purpose-built seismic vessels, in-house software processing and imaging and extensive engineering and manufacturing activities, the company engages in the entire marine seismic acquisition value chain. 2020 marked Shearwater’s entry into the growing deepwater Ocean Bottom Seismic market and the company has increased its market share in this segment through 2021. Combined with market-leading multi-component streamer technology this gives the company a strong position in the overall 4D market.
