Wilh. Wilhelmsen’s long maritime history dates back to 1861 when the company was established in Tønsberg, Norway, by Wilhelm Wilhelmsen. Throughout its history, the company has been involved in the liner and tanker business. Since the beginning of the 1970s, Wilhelmsen has invested in its car carrier fleet, which, in 1999, merged with the Swedish-owned Wallenius Lines.

Today’s Wilh. Wilhelmsen provides maritime services, logistics and equipment to the global maritime fleet. The company’s ship management division provides full technical management, crewing and other services to all major vessel types. The company also has several strategic holdings and investments, such as its ~38% stake in Wallenius Wilhelmsen and ~75% stake in Treasure. Treasure’s dominating asset is the 11% ownership in Hyundai Glovis.

Wilh. Wilhelmsen recently established a segment, ‘New Energy’, to invest in renewables. The group foresees total investments of USD 500m in the space over the next five years. The group’s current renewable portfolio already includes several companies, e.g., NorSea, Edda Wind, NorSea Wind, Massterly and Ivaldi.
